Challenge
Managing over 9,000 GitHub licenses across 20 GitHub organizations became costly. At $21 per user per month, there was no easy way to see who was active, and what “activity” means. From commits to reviews to occasional logins, there was no simple way to determine it.
Solution
We integrated GitHub REST and GraphQL data with internal SSO and HR sources and brought it to Snowflake. This data is also used for other use cases. We built a Tableau dashboard that shows user activity and enriched it with HR data. Managers could filter, review, and trigger license revocation requests directly from the insights.
Results
The dashboard immediately identified ~1,100 inactive accounts. Their licenses were revoked, saving to Pfizer over $270,000 per year while improving visibility and governance across all development teams.
