Optimizing GitHub License Usage for Pfizer
By integrating GitHub, HR, and SSO data into a unified Tableau dashboard, a Fortune 100 Enterprise uncovered inactive users and streamlined license management. Two reviews so far have saved over $1.1M a year.

Challenge
Managing over 9,000 GitHub licenses across 20 GitHub organizations became costly. At $21 per user per month, there was no easy way to see who was active, and what “activity” means. From commits to reviews to occasional logins, there was no simple way to determine it.
Solution
We integrated GitHub REST and GraphQL data with internal SSO and HR sources and brought it to Snowflake. This data is also used for other use cases. We built a Tableau dashboard that shows user activity and enriched it with HR data. Managers could filter, review, and trigger license revocation requests directly from the insights.
Results
The dashboard immediately identified ~1,100 inactive accounts. Their licenses were revoked, saving Pfizer over $270,000 per year while improving visibility and governance across all development teams. Pfizer has since run the same dashboard again and freed another 2,000 licenses at $35 per user per month, about $840,000 a year. Together that is over $1.1M a year, from a dashboard that took a few days to build once the data was in place.

Thirty minutes, straight to the problem. No deck, no pitch, and a written summary afterwards either way.
